I am always talking up the positive effects of editing one’s wardrobe…the benefits it creates with the dedication to building and maintaining a wardrobe of ‘SUBSTANCE…’  So let’s have some dialogue when it comes to holiday dressing:  I think it is a waste of money and a waste of space to buy almost any article of clothing that will be worn only once OR only venture out of your closet once a year…think bad holiday applique sweaters….and brides excluded here.  Black or jewel toned corduroys….or silver pajama pants….oh the possibilities!  Bear with me here: bottoms that will see you through dozens of invitations, paired with a luxurious, yet classic, cashmere sweater…. here is your base!  I’m telling you, it’s all in the accessories.  A great white shirt with sparkly jewelry can take you anywhere….I know, because I have done it.  Chances are if you have some fine basics in your wardrobe, the options for accessories are endless.  Look at the transformation photos following this commentary…. you can alter the ideas to best fit your style, but you will stay with your commitment to not purchase what I term as ‘disposable clothing’, and continue to build that glorious wardrobe of SUBSTANCE!  Life is a party….be ready for the invitation.

Layering is the key to transitioning your favorite go-to pieces from the Spring and Summer Seasons into the Fall and Winter Seasons… But how to master this and not look homeless?

Textures and fabrics have a lot to making this affect appear effortless- and in making sure you don’t add excess bulk onto your body.  Begin with a light weight fabric and build out… in other words, pull out that silk and lace cami you wore all summer and put a cotton button-down shirt over it (Buttoning from the center down as to let the top of your cami show), add a belt fastened more on the hip than the waist so as not to cut your torso in half.  Now the fun part:  Putting the new cashmere cardi over the whole ensemble… A shorter one to allow your shirttails some presence, or a longer one if covering your bottom is preferable.  Feeling brave?  A fabulous scarf, whether for accessorizing or warmth can add a finished appearance.
